How cute are these antique roll top desk sets? We often see them for sale at vintage and antique markets in our area. Its kinda rare to find them with their original chair still included. They are often made of solid oak wood and come in various sizes – from toddler size up to adult size. The kids desk and chair sets are the most adorable of them all!
Recently this small wooden desk came across our path. The finish on it was tired and worn as could be expected of a piece dating from the late 1800s to the early 1900s. Of course we jumped right into refinishing it. Just like we do with most of our furniture finds. This guy was thirsty and the color combo we chose for it, is always a hit. Yep, sorry people – it sold very quickly after we listed it online and will be heading to TX.
This particular roll top desk had a leg missing, but my handy husband was able to craft a new one from solid oak wood to repair it with. The top had all kinds of markings and a worn surface. It had to be sanded very well before any coat of paint went onto it. We chose a color called Marzipan.
It makes my heart happy to be able to save these pieces of furniture from the landfill. I hope it brings joy and many more years of use to its new family. Distressed painted furniture adds such a lot of interest to a space and we love mixing and matching it with brown wood furniture through our home.
The next antique roll top desk will be painted in a similar, warm off white color on the outside. The inside will be a glorious pop of rustic orange.
